A little time. A lot of happiness.

A little time. A lot of happiness.

There is a Chinese proverb that states: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

At JRT, we couldn’t agree more. This year, we kicked off the summer in the best way possible – by giving back to the Detroit community by helping out at Detroit’s own Capuchin Soup Kitchen. We’re feeling just a little more sunshine than usual by sharing a smile and serving a meal to those in need.

Since 1929, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen has supported the community by providing food and faith to those in need. The amazing brotherhood of friars has provided a tremendous service through 90 years of operation in Detroit and that dedication inspired our team to get out of the office and volunteer. This past May and June, our 100+ employees were welcomed by the friendly staff at Capuchin as we joined them to help serve breakfast and prepare lunch. We were also happy to provide them with bins of non-perishable items and cash donations. During our time, over 200 volunteer hours were clocked and approximately 3,000 well-balanced meals were provided to Capuchin’s guests. We absolutely enjoyed our service and hope we improved some people’s morning or day.

Volunteering our time, and a collective piece of ourselves to the Capuchin guests, has us inspired and humbled.

If you haven’t had a chance, we suggest spending some time at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. It’ll do good for both your own and someone else’s soul.
